Aaron Prout, director of Livewell Vending Ltd talks to BQ about his business and why he recommends Digital Enterprise and Digital Knowledge Exchange.
What is it the company does?
Livewell Vending operate a chain of over 200 automated retail stations offering a broad range of refreshments.
Describe your role in no more than 100 words
As founder, owner and director I work very much on the business – to provide vision, set direction, monitor performance.
How did you come to do the work that you do?
I spotted an opportunity following the introduction of guidelines on school food after Jamie Oliver’s School Dinners campaign. Whilst I knew little about vending, I had lots of experience in retail.
What has been your biggest challenge in your current position?
Recruiting the right talent for the business.
Where do you see the company in five years’ time?
Hopefully doubled in size and also with a diversified coffee offering.
Why did you take part in Digital Enterprise or Digital Knowledge Exchange?
The digital landscape is changing at such a fast pace that I was sure we would have lots to learn and apply to Livewell by taking part.
What has the Digital Enterprise or Digital Knowledge Exchange done for your business?
The grant has helped us to invest in a new telemetry system that gives us real-time access to sales and performance information. The improvements this is delivering in terms of operational efficiency and customer service are huge.
What advice would you give to an aspiring business leader?
Find and retain the best people you can to work with.
What do you wish someone had told you when you started out?
If you do not invest in growing the business, then you will start to go backwards – standing still is not an option!
